29 CFR 1910.184(d): Inspections. Each day before being used, the sling and all fastenings and attachments shall be inspected for damage or defects by a competent person designated by the employer. Additional inspections shall be performed during sling use, where service conditions warrant. Damaged or defective slings shall be immediately removed from service. a. Located in the maintenance shop, there was a damaged LiftAll, type EE2-802T, polyester sling that was not removed from service and used to lift steel angle iron, square tubing, and other metal stock in the maintenance department, thereby exposing the employees to struck-by hazards.
