29 CFR 1910.334(a)(4): Conductive work locations. Portable electric equipment and flexible cords used in highly conductive work locations (such as those inundated with water or other conductive liquids), or in job locations where employees are likely to contact water or conductive liquids, shall be approved for those locations: Wires exposed or improperly repaired; unmarked or mislabeled panels, disconnects and breakers; uncovered parts operating at 50+ volts; unclosed openings; missing covers; impermissible use of flexible cords; absence of cord strain relief; improperly sealed junction boxes; corroded disconnects; out lets with blocked ground prongs; absent grounding pins; improperly mounted panel boards; enclosures not installed to exclude moisture; flexible cords improperly repaired; uncovered receptacles; insufficiently accessible panels and disconnects; inadequate training and use of safe work practices; impermissible use of damaged equipment; improper use of equipment in hazardous areas; inadequate hazard warnings; unused openings and spaces inside panels. 29 CFR 1910.305(g)(1)(iv)(A):Unless specifically permitted otherwise in paragraph (g)(1)(ii) of this section, flexible cords and cables may not be used as a substitute for the fixed wiring of a structure: Wires exposed or improperly repaired; unmarked or mislabeled panels, disconnects and breakers; uncovered parts operating at 50+ volts; unclosed openings; missing covers; impermissible use of flexible cords; absence of cord strain relief; improperly sealed junction boxes; corroded disconnects; out lets with blocked ground prongs; absent grounding pins; improperly mounted panel boards; enclosures not installed to exclude moisture; flexible cords improperly repaired; uncovered receptacles; insufficiently accessible panels and disconnects; inadequate training and use of safe work practices; impermissible use of damaged equipment; improper use of equipment in hazardous areas; inadequate hazard warnings; unused openings and spaces inside panels. To abate this violation, the employer must replace all instances where flexible cords and cables are being used as a substitute for the fixed wiring. Case Farms was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 77252, citation number 1, item number 19a, and was affirmed as a final order on May 16, 2013, with respect to a workplace located at 1818 County Road 160, Winesburg, Ohio 44690. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including a description of how these steps protect its employees from the electrical hazards. 29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(ii): If there is a defect or evidence of damage that might expose an employee to injury, the defective or damaged item shall be removed from service, and no employee may use it until repairs and tests necessary to render the equipment safe have been made: Wires exposed or improperly repaired; unmarked or mislabeled panels, disconnects and breakers; uncovered parts operating at 50+ volts; unclosed openings; missing covers; impermissible use of flexible cords; absence of cord strain relief; improperly sealed junction boxes; corroded disconnects; out lets with blocked ground prongs; absent grounding pins; improperly mounted panel boards; enclosures not installed to exclude moisture; flexible cords improperly repaired; uncovered receptacles; insufficiently accessible panels and disconnects; inadequate training and use of safe work practices; impermissible use of damaged equipment; improper use of equipment in hazardous areas; inadequate hazard warnings; unused openings and spaces inside panels. 29 CFR 1910.303(e)(1)(ii): Identification of manufacturer and ratings. Electric equipment may not be used unless the following markings have been placed on the equipment: Other markings giving voltage, current, wattage, or other ratings as necessary: Wires exposed or improperly repaired; unmarked or mislabeled panels, disconnects and breakers; uncovered parts operating at 50+ volts; unclosed openings; missing covers; impermissible use of flexible cords; absence of cord strain relief; improperly sealed junction boxes; corroded disconnects; out lets with blocked ground prongs; absent grounding pins; improperly mounted panel boards; enclosures not installed to exclude moisture; flexible cords improperly repaired; uncovered receptacles; insufficiently accessible panels and disconnects; inadequate training and use of safe work practices; impermissible use of damaged equipment; improper use of equipment in hazardous areas; inadequate hazard warnings; unused openings and spaces inside panels. 29 CFR 1910.303(f)(1): Motors and appliances. Each disconnecting means required by this subpart for motors and appliances shall be legibly marked to indicate its purpose, unless located and arranged so the purpose is evident: Wires exposed or improperly repaired; unmarked or mislabeled panels, disconnects and breakers; uncovered parts operating at 50+ volts; unclosed openings; missing covers; impermissible use of flexible cords; absence of cord strain relief; improperly sealed junction boxes; corroded disconnects; out lets with blocked ground prongs; absent grounding pins; improperly mounted panel boards; enclosures not installed to exclude moisture; flexible cords improperly repaired; uncovered receptacles; insufficiently accessible panels and disconnects; inadequate training and use of safe work practices; impermissible use of damaged equipment; improper use of equipment in hazardous areas; inadequate hazard warnings; unused openings and spaces inside panels. To abate this violation the employer must ensure that each disconnecting means for motors and appliances is legibly marked to indicate its purpose.
