Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of being caught in shackles on shackle conveyors while hanging chickens at the three re-hang stations in the re-hang area where the shackle conveyors change elevation and at the three re- inspection stations in the Eviscerating area where the inspectors work adjacent to obstructions. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install at each station emergency stop buttons pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices conveniently located and readily identifiable; and installed so they act directly on the control of the conveyor concerned and cannot be overridden from other locations.
