Text For Citation: 03 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The emloyer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazrds that were causing or likely to cause death of serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to vulcanizer doors being blown open, or off due to not being properly latched and locked in position prior to applying steam to the vulcanizer: a) Vulcanizer #6 and #7, were not provided with safety pin devices which prevented steam from being applied to a vulcanizer with a partially closed door, and were locat102842929 MANUFACTURING AREA of Rex Hide, Inc on September 5, 1989. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install safety devices similar to those in use on the other vulcanizers in service.
