29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: (a) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #1, Seamer 1a, Manu Cameron model 216 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the moving vertical shafts, the conveyor chain and sprocket, and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. (b) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #1, Seamer 1a, Manu Cameron Model 216 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, moving vertical shafts, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. (c) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line 1, Seamer 1b, Manu Cameron model 216 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the moving vertical shafts, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. (d) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #1, Seamer 1b, Manu Cameron Model 216 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, moving vertical shafts, the conveyor chain and sprocket, and the lifting plate. (e) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #2, Seamer 2a, Manu Cameron model 226 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the conveyor chain and sprocket, and the lifting plate. (f) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #2, Seamer 2a, Manu Cameron Model 226 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. (g) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #2, Seamer 2b, Manu Cameron model 226 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. (h) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #2, Seamer 2b, Manu Cameron Model 226 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. (i) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #3, Seamer 3a, Manu Cameron model 226 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. (j) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #3, Seamer 3a, Manu Cameron Model 226 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. (k) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #3, Seamer 3b, Manu Cameron model 226 at the intake side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. There was also a pinch point outside the machine created by a horizontal moving plate and a bolt. (l) On or about June 15, 2017, in the Filling and Seaming Department, Line #3, Seamer 3b, Manu Cameron Model 226 at the output side, the employer did not ensure that the guarding completely enclosed the rotating spider, the conveyor chain and sprocket and the lifting plate. Employees were exposed to pinch points and nip points. Zwanenberg Food Group (USA) Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1192041, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on January 31, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 3640 Muddy Creek Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio.
