Text For Citation: 03 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a hazard of being exposed to an aluminum dust explosion where the dust cyclone type collector unit was installed indoors. The Decorated Products Co, Inc. was previously cited for violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard, or it's equivalent standard, 5(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA Inspection No. 017830076, Citation No. 01, Item No.001(1) and Item No.01/001(5), issued on 03/26/93. a) NORTH STORAGE AREA, TORRIT BRAND DUST COLLECTOR, MODEL 20-5FB55 THE DRY-TYPE DUST COLLECTOR BAGS WERE LOCATED INSIDE THE BUILDING AREA. b) TORRIT 20-5FB55 COLLECTION SYSTEM, THE EMPLOYER DID NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION ON TESTING OF THE REQUIREMENT TO KEEP A VELOCITY OF 4500 FEET PER MINUTE. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD WOULD BE TO RELOCATE THE DRY-TYPE DUST COLLECTOR SYSTEM OUTDOORS AS PER SECTION 24 AND TO TEST AND VERIFY THAT THE VELOCITY MET THE REQUIREMENT OF SECTION 22 OF THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATIONS STANDARD FOR FINISHING OF ALUMINUM.
