Text For Citation: 03 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause deal or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the crane cab and the storage rack and/or bar stock while riding on the outside of the crane cab of the stacker crane: a) Warehouse, Otis Stacker Crane No. 12342. Employees were exposed to being caught between the crane and fixed objects and/or falling from the platform attached to the rear of the crane, on or about 7/2/92. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to follow the requirements as stipulated in the ANSI Standard Section 183.2.29(a)(2)(d) which states in part that "the operator shall not lift or travel while anyone is on the carriage, or outside the cab".
