Text For Citation: 03 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazard of 42 feet above ground level while performing a trouble shooting task above a hydrogen sulfide gas holder tank: a. Feasible and accepted abatement methods, among other is to enforce use of safety belt and lanyard when employees work at unprotected elevated areas. This shall be discussed with all employees, including management and technical personnel. In addition, Monsanto shall re-iterate to all management representatives that they have a legal obligation to see that other employees utilize safety belt and lanyards, and to enforce their use upon recognition of fall hazards.
