29 CFR 1910.219(f)(1): Gears. Gears shall be guarded in accordance with one of the following methods as detailed in 219(f)(1)(I) thru 219(f)(1)(iii). National Nut Maker #17 - On or about 14 February 2018, the employer failed to guard the rotating gears on the machine. Employees were exposed to inadvertent contact with the meshing gears since none of the following methods of guarding were used: a. By a complete enclosure. b. By a standard guard. c. By a band guard covering the face of gear and having flanges extended inward beyond the root of the teeth on the exposed side or sides. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d)
