Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(6)(ii): Except as provided in paragraphs (f)(7) and (f)(8) of this section, the employer shall ensure that each container of hazardous chemical in the workplace is labeled, tagged or marked with the following: Product identifier and words, pictures, symbols, or combination thereof, which provide at least general information regarding the hazards of the chemicals, and which, in conjunction with the other information immediately available to employees under the hazard communication program, will provide employees with the specific information regarding the physical and health hazards of the hazardous chemical. The employer does not protect each employee during plating work by providing by providing labels on each container of hazardous chemicals. On or about June 16, 2015, in the facility, employees required to perform plating operations were exposed to the hazard of contact with hazardous chemicals including acids, alkali cleaners and metals. The employer did not ensure that each container of hazardous chemical in the workplace was labeled, tagged or marked with the required information, including, but not limited to: a. Zinc Line 4: Hydrochloric Acid stationary tank b. Black Line: Black Chromate stationary tank , Purple/Red Dye secondary containers c. Cadmium Line: Electrocleaner stationary tank d. Phosphate Line: Hydrochloric Acid, Zinc Phosphate stationary tanks To abate this hazard in the future the employer must ensure that each container of hazardous chemical in the workplace is labeled, tagged or marked with the following: Product identifier and words, pictures, symbols, or combination thereof, which provide at least general information regarding the hazards of the chemicals, and which, in conjunction with the other information immediately available to employees under the hazard communication program, will provide employees with the specific information regarding the physical and health hazards of the hazardous chemical.wing: Electronic Plating Company was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (1910.1200(f)(5)-HazCom 1994) which was contained in OSHA inspection number #315157800, citation number 1, item numbers 9a/b, and was affirmed as a final order on December 6, 2011, with respect to a workplace at 1821 S. 54th Ave., Cicero, IL. 60804.
