29 CFR 1926.1052(c)(1)(i): Stairways having four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches (76 cm), whichever is less, were not equipped with at least one handrail and one stairrail system along each unprotected side or edge: The employer does not protect each employee from the hazard of falling while using stairways that are not equipped with a stairrail system. a) This most recently occurred on November 8, 2021, at 920 N. Western Ave., Park Ridge, Illinois 60068. Employees are exposed to the hazard of falling approximately 52 inches to the ground while using stairways that are not equipped with a stairrail system. Emerald Inc., was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.1052(c)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1525494, citation number 3, item number 4 and was affirmed as a final order on November 4, 2021, with respect to a workplace located at 751 Meacham Rd. Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. Emerald Inc., was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.1052(c)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1270365, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on March 27, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 75 W. Thacker St., Schaumburg, IL 60173. To abate this hazard in the future, the employer must ensure that its employees are protected from the hazard of falling by a stairrail system while using stairways at a jobsite. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including an explanation of how these steps protect its employees from fall hazards.
