29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): Point(s) of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee(s) from having any part of their body in the danger zone(s) during operating cycle(s): The employer failed to ensure that the point of operation on the following equipment/machinery was effectively guarded: a. On May 27, 2015, the north carbine (Hem) saw, located in the Large Bar Conditioning (LBC) area, had an opening of 4 x 1 and half inches. Employees stand within 12 inches of the unguarded blade when cutting bars to length, and/or cutting samples, and are exposed to the unguarded blade. b. On May 27, 2015 the Metal Cut XII circular saw, located in the Large Bar Conditioning (LBC) area, was not adequately guarded. Employees were observed reaching around the guard to retrieve cut samples of bar stock, and were exposed to the rotating saw blade. c. On May 28, 2015 the Meta Cut VI circular saw, located in C-building, was not adequately guarded. Employees were observed reaching around the side of the guard to retrieve cut samples of bar stock, and were exposed to the rotating blade. d. On May 28,2015 the Sutton straightener, located in the C-building at the HRM, was unguarded. Employees remove and replace the internal guide (both straight and/or concaved) on the front and back side of the bar straightener were exposed to caught between or struck-by hazards. e. The Chevalier CNC lathe, located in the small machine shop area, was inadequately guarded. Employees were exposed to rotating parts. The TimkenSteel Corporation (formerly known as: The Timken Company) was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR. 1910. 212(a)(3)(ii), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 462358, citation number 02, item number 03 and was affirmed as a final order on July 01,2013 with respect to a workplace located at 2401 Gambrinus Ave., SW, Canton, OH 44706.
