Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1000(c): An employee(s) was exposed to crystalline silica in excess of the 8-hour time weighted average limits listed in Table Z-3: [Note: Permissible exposure limit for crystalline silica calculated as (10 mg/m3 / %SiO2+2)] a. On or about March 22, 2018, an employee performing grinding operations was exposed to crystalline silica at an 8-hour time weighted average of 2.113 mg/m3, which is approximately 1.01 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 2.083 mg/m3, for 441 minutes. The exposure level is derived from 1 sample collected over a 441 minute period of time, and zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. b. On or about March 22, 2018, an employee performing grinding operations was exposed to crystalline silica at an 8-hour time weighted average of 6.402 mg/m3, which is approximately 2.56 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 2.504 mg/m3, for 439 minutes. The exposure level is derived from 1 sample collected over a 439 minute period of time, and zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. c. On or about March 22, 2018, an employee working on the NOVA line was exposed to crystalline silica at an 8-hour time weighted average of 0.36 mg/m3, which is approximately 1.19 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.303 mg/m3, for 437 minutes. The exposure level is derived from 1 sample collected over a 439 minute period of time, and zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. d. On or about March 22, 2018, an employee working the auger in the mold department was exposed to crystalline silica at an 8-hour time weighted average of 2.276 mg/m3, which is approximately 7.96 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.286 mg/m3, for 437 minutes. The exposure level is derived from 1 sample collected over a 439 minute period of time, and zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. e. On or about March 22, 2018, an employee working on the mold line was exposed to crystalline silica at an 8-hour time weighted average of 0.99 mg/m3, which is approximately 2.18 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.455 mg/m3, for 432 minutes. The exposure level is derived from 1 sample collected over a 432 minute period of time, and zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled.
