Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.179(j)(3): Periodic inspection. Complete inspections of the crane shall be performed at intervals as generally defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii)(b) of this section, depending upon its activity, severity of service, and environment, or as specifically indicated below. These inspections shall include the requirements of paragraph (j)(2) of this section and in addition, the following items. Any deficiencies such as listed shall be carefully examined and determination made as to whether they constitute a safety hazard: a. On or about June 9, 2015, located throughout the facility, the employer did not ensure that periodic inspections had been performed on all cranes operated by the employees, thereby exposing employees to the hazards associated with overhead crane operations. Universal Fabricating & Construction Services was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.179(j)(3) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 578359, citation number 1, item number 3b and was affirmed as a final order on September 26, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at 1241 McKinley Avenue Columbus, Ohio 43222.
