29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2): The items listed in subparagraphs (j)(2)(i)-(vii) were not inspected for defects at intervals as defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section or as specifically indicated, and all deficiencies were not carefully examined and a determination made as to whether they constituted a safety hazard. The employer does not protect each employee by inspecting cranes for defects at intervals defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section. a) This most recently occurred on February 28, 2013, the employer does not conduct "frequent inspections" of its jib, trolley and bridge cranes to determine safety hazards. To abate this hazard in the future, the employer must ensure cranes are inspected for defects at intervals defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section. This employer has been cited for this practice that included: Hoist Liftruck Mfg, Inc., was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 400064, citation 1, item 3a, issued on September 28, 2012, and became final order on about October 23, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at 6499 W. 65th Street, Bedford Park, IL 60638. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including an explanation of how cranes will be inspected for defects at intervals defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section.
