Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1000(c): Table Z-3. An employee's exposure to any substance listed in Table Z-3, in any 8-hour work shift of a 40-hour work week, shall not exceed the 8-hour time weighted average limit given for that substance in the table. a. On August 8, 2018, an employee performing the required duties as a Screen Cleaner in the Loading Area was over-exposed to respirable crystalline quartz silica at an 8 hour time weighted average of 1.383 milligrams of respirable dust per cubic meter of air. This exposure is approximately 8.59 times the calculated permissible exposure limit of 0.161 milligrams of respirable dust per cubic meter of air. The exposure was derived from samples collected over a 415 minute period. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled period of 65 minutes. b. On August 8, 2018, an employee performing the required duties as a Loader Operator the Sand Storage Area was over-exposed to respirable crystalline quartz silica at an 8 hour time weighted average of 0.3715 milligrams of respirable dust per cubic meter of air. This exposure is approximately 2.12 times the calculated permissible exposure limit of 0.175milligrams of respirable dust per cubic meter of air. The exposure was derived from samples collected over a 435 minute period. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled period of 45 minutes. McKees Rocks Industrial Enterprises Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard 1910.1000(c), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1095802, citation number 1, item number 3a, and was affirmed as a final order on April 29, 2016 with respect to a workplace located at 42722 State Route 7, Hannibal, Ohio 43931.
