29 CFR 1926.501(b)(11): Each employee on a steep roof with unprotected sides and edges 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels was not protected from falling by guardrail systems with toeboards, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: a) Southwest Roof Peak Area- On or about September 21, 2024, employees replacing a roof were exposed to a fall hazard of approximately eighteen feet (18) without the use of a fall protection system. b) Northwest Roof Leading Edge Area - On or about September 21, 2024, employees replacing a roof were exposed to a fall hazard of approximately twenty-nine feet (29), five inches without the use of a fall protection system. Abatement: With respect to all future worksites in Pennsylvania, the employer must cease and desist from permitting employees to work on walking/working surfaces with unprotected sides or edges 6 feet or more above a lower level, unless each employee is protected by a guardrail system, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system. Abatement certification and documentation to address the specific violation observed on or about September 21, 2024, is also required. The Date By Which Violation Must Be Abated listed below is for the specific violation observed on or about September 21, 2024. The cease and desist provision listed above is an ongoing obligation.
