Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. With respect to an establishment located at 1400 Plover Road, Plover, WI 54467, employees were exposed to the potential machine hazards when: a) on or about October 20, 2022, employees were exposed to potential struck-by hazards from the pallet conveyor, rotating base of the Bright Stacker and magnetic head of the Brighton Stacker when the presence sensing mats for the operator station on Line #15 did not protect the entire area in which employees could access the hazardous areas. b) on or about October 20, 2022, employees were exposed to potential struck-by hazards from the pallet conveyor, rotating base of the Bright Stacker and magnetic head of the Brighton Stacker when the presence sensing mats for the operator station on Line #11 did not protect the entire area in which employees could access the hazardous areas. c) on or about October 20, 2022, employees were exposed to potential struck-by hazards from the pallet conveyor, rotating base of the Bright Stacker and magnetic head of the Brighton Stacker when the presence sensing mats for the operator station on Line #4 did not protect the entire area in which employees could access the hazardous areas. d) on or about October 20, 2022, employees were exposed to potential struck-by hazards from the pallet conveyor, rotating base of the Bright Stacker and magnetic head of the Brighton Stacker when the presence sensing mats for the operator station on Line #2 did not protect the entire area in which employees could access the hazardous areas. Del Monte Foods, Inc was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1419467, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on January 7, 2020, with respect to a workplace located at 680 E. John St., Markesan, WI, 53946.
