29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about August 3, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place on the component saws to ensure that employees were protected from struck by and caught in between hazards of the saw blade. b) On or about August 3, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place on the T1 and T2 tresses machines to ensure that employees were protected from struck by and caught in between hazards of the saw blades and other moving parts, such as but not limited to, the chains and material moving arms of the machines. c) On or about August 3, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place on the GR 14-24 rear tress machine, located out back. Employees are exposed to the moving components of the tress stacking arms and the line movement chains. NOTE: The employer was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or it's equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection #1217202, citation 1, item 2, which was affirmed as final order on April 27, 2017, with respect to the workplace located at 4220 W. White Road, Oakwood GA 30566.
