Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): Portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface to which the ladder was used to gain access: a) On April 22, 2021, employee(s) were observed utilizing a ladder that did not extend at least three (3) feet above the upper landing of the working platform, thereby exposing employees to fall hazards of approximately 12 feet. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records. Village Carpentry & Building, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.1053(b)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1503044, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on January 5, 2021, with respect to a workplace located at 656 W. 58th Street, in Hinsdale, Illinois.
