29 CFR 1926.651(c): Means of egress from trench excavations. A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees. On or about March 10, 2017 at 2910 North Druid Hills Roads, Atlanta, Georgia: an employee working in a unprotected trench 21 feet deep was exposed to a cave in hazard. There was no ladder or ramp provided for the employee to safely access/egress the trench.
