Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): Safety guards of the types described in Subparagraphs (3) and (4) of this paragraph, where the operator stands in front of the opening, shall be constructed so that the peripheral protecting member can be adjusted to the constantly decreasing diameter of the wheel. The maximum angular exposure above the horizontal plane of the wheel spindle as specified in paragraphs (b)(3) and (4) of this section shall never be exceeded, and the distance between the wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue or the end of the peripheral member at the top shall never exceed one-fourth inch: Maintenance Department - On or about 01 September 2016, the employer failed to ensure that the safety guards were properly adjusted on the Bradford and Jet Grinders. The guards were not adjusted to within one-fourth of an inch for the tongue guard. This exposed employees to a struck-by hazard in the event of wheel breakage. JD Norman Industries, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.215(b)(9), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 394502, citation number 1, item number 5 and was affirmed as a final order on (date), with respect to a workplace located at 4650 Tiedeman Rd., Brooklyn, OH 44144 Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
