Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a) M/V Yardarm Knott: Employees working or walking in the main engine room had occasion to be exposed to uncovered/unprotected electric panel bus bars in a panel box near a normal walkway. This condition exposed employees to possible electrocution, electric shock and/or electrical burns. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to replace the panel covers and deadfront the openings to the bus bar. Yard Arm Knott, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 107107476, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1, issued on September 27, 1990.
