Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling from and/or being struck by open web steel joists: (a) Shopko Warehouse Site, 1001 East Bowen Road, Boise, Idaho On November 20, 1991 and at times prior thereto, open web steel joists were placed on girders in Area B without welding the ends of the joists to the girders or any other form of temporary connection prior to release from the load line. Among other methods, on feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is: (1) Ensure all joists are connected to girders by bolting or bolting or tack welding. (2) Do not release from the sling until ends ore bolted or welded.
