Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm t employees in that employees were exposed to: a) A car door or gate was not provided for the front entrance of elevator #20, exposing employees to the hazard of being crushed by the moving elevator car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install car door(s)/gate(s) which would fold or slide to the side(s) of the car,thereby allowing continued use of the overhead rails. b) A car door or gate was not provided for the entrance of elevator #19, exposing employees to the hazard of being crushed by the moving elevator car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install car door(s)/gate(s) which would fold or slide to the side(s) of the car, thereby allowing continued use of the overhead rails. c) Car door(s) or gate(s) were not provided for either of the two entrances to elevator #27, exposing employees to the hazard of being crushed by the moving elevator car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to install car door(s)/gate(s) which would fold or slide to the side(s) of the car, thereby allowing continued use of the overhead rails. d) Car door(s) or gate(s) were not provided for either of the two entrances to elevator #17, exposing employees to the hazard of being crushed by the moving elevator car. Anong other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to install car door(s)/gate(s) which would fold or slide to the side(s) of the car, thereby allowing continued use of the overhead rails.
