Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.178(q)(7): Industrial trucks shall be examined before being placed in service, and shall not be placed in service if the examination shows any condition adversely affecting the safety of the vehicle. Such examination shall be made at least daily. Where industrial trucks are used on a round-the-clock basis, they shall be examined after each shift. Defects when found shall be immediately reported and corrected: a. At Kroger store number 942, the employer did not ensure that the Crown Walkie Pallet Truck (model: PW3520-80; S/N: 6A124787) was examined after each shift with immediate reporting and correcting of defects such as the brakes and horn. Powered industrial truck examinations/inspections were not performed to detect for possible defects or issues involving, but not limited to, the following: damage, tires/wheels, steering, forward and reverse travel controls, safety devices such as the emergency button for reversing direction, hydraulic systems (leaks, bad lines), brakes, inadequate stopping distance, horn, and battery connectors.
