Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: a) At the jobsite, production floor - The employer did not provide suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes to protect employees working with corrosive materials such as, but not limited to, Alodine 1200S. Observed on or about 09/08/2014. Note: Adequate eyewash must be provided for emergency use. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1 1981 specifies a flushing capability of not less than 1.5 liters of water per minute for 15 minutes. (Ref. American National Standard 358.1-1990). Additionally, an effective anti-bacterial agent, suitable for Ophthalmic use, added to tap water will help preserve the water and reduce the possibility of pathogens developing in the flushing solution. An isotonic saline solution (0.85 % to 1.0 % NaCl) buffered to a pH of 7.3 to 7.4 and preserved with a suitable antibacterial agent is less irritating to eye over a 15 minute flush. Seitz Technical Products, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.151(c), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 314232562, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on 6/23/2011, with respect to a workplace located at Route 41 and Newark Road, Avondale PA 19311.
