29 CFR 1915.73(c): When employees are working around open hatches not protected by coamings to a height of 24 inches or around other large openings, the edge of the opening shall be guarded in the working area to height of 36 to 42 inches, except where the use of such guards is made impracticable by the work actually in progress: a) On or about April 18, 2017, an employee installing a hatch on the LCS 17 aft flight deck, starboard side left the hatch opening unprotected when the installing employee left the area. Fincantieri Marine Group, LLC, dba Marinette Marine Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.23(a)(7), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 985714, citation number 1, item number 1a and was affirmed as a final order on October 3, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at 1600 Ely Street, Marinette, WI.
