Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the potential release of ammonia by draining oil from the accumulator section of the chiller by turning a globe valve a quarter of a turn to purge the oil from the ammonia system. (a)Main work area and rear area (kitchen/bathroom) - The floor throughout this establishment had loose planking and floor openings (approximately 36 X 26 inches and 3 feet deep) that were creating tripping and fall hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair the floors throughout the facility to eliminate tripping hazards and the hazard of falling into floor openings.
