29 CFR 1910.134(c)(2)(ii): The employer did not establish and implement those elements of a written program necessary to ensure that any employee using a respirator voluntarily was medically able to use that respirator and that the respirator was cleaned, stored, and maintained so that its use does not present a health hazard to the user: a) 21st Century Production floor- ARI Lab area: Employees voluntarily used a 3M 5101 half face elastomeric respirator, while cleaning and loading hazardous chemicals such as but not limited to magnesium oxide, magnesium fluoride, acetic acid, silicon dioxide, and sodium hydroxide into a computer control chamber applying an anti-reflective coating to optical lenses. b) 21st Century Production floor- Sandblasting Area: Employees voluntarily used an MSA 808076 Comfo Classic elastomeric respirator with particular filters, while engaging in an enclosed system sandblasting operation. During this process, employees removed excess anti-reflective coating materials from the lens. The employer did not develop and implement elements of a written program such as medical evaluations, cleaning, maintenance, and storage procedures; on or about 12/15/2021. Note: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
