29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about February 2, 2020, and at times prior thereto, the Shalco core molding machine was not guarded on the back side where the top and bottom boxes came together to form the mold exposing employees to pinch point hazards. b. On or about February 2, 2020, and at times prior thereto, the Shalco core molding machine was not guarded on the left side where the top and bottom boxes came together to form the mold exposing employees to pinch point hazards. c. On or about February 2, 2020, and at times prior thereto, the Shalco core molding machine was not guarded on the front side where the top and bottom boxes came together to form the mold exposing employees to pinch point hazards. d. On or about February 2, 2020, and at times prior thereto, the Shalco core molding machine's trolley was not guarded when the trolley reaches the end of the cycle exposing employees to pinch point hazards. e. On or about February 2, 2020, and at times prior thereto, the CB-30 core molding machine's rotating arm was not guarded on the front side where the trolley presents the mold to the hoist exposing employees to struck by hazards. Casting Solutions, LLC. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard 1910. 212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1272505, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on January 9, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 2345 Licking Road Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
