29 CFR 1910.134(k): Training and information. This paragraph requires the employer to provide effective training to employees who are required to use respirators. The training must be comprehensive, understandable, and recur annually, and more often if necessary. This paragraph also requires the employer to provide the basic information on respirators in Appendix D of this section to employees who wear respirators when not required by this section or by the employer to do so. 29 CFR 1910.134(k)(1)(i): Why the respirator is necessary and how improper fit, usage, or maintenance can compromise the protective effect of the respirator; a. On or about May 20, 2018, at the work site, employees who performed frac sand loading operations were required to wear tight-fitting respirators. The employer failed to ensure that employees were trained on the necessity, proper fit, maintenance, and use of the required respiratory protection. McKees Rocks Industrial Enterprises Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard 1910.134(k)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1095802, citation number 1, item number 1b, and was affirmed as a final order on April 29, 2016 with respect to a workplace located at 42722 State Route 7, Hannibal, Ohio 43931.
