29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7)(i): The employer shall provide training to ensure that the purpose and function of the energy control program are understood by employees and that the knowledge and skills required for the safe application, usage, and removal of the energy controls are acquired by employees. On or about January 11, 2018, the employer failed to adequately train employees to identify and isolate hazardous energy prior to employees removing hopper screen guards to perform servicing tasks, including magnet checks and removal of residual food product from around the rotating auger. Employees were exposed to caught-in hazards likely to result in an amputation. The employer, Crest Foods Co., Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1133012, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on August 18, 2016, with respect to a workplace located at 502 Brown Avenue, Ashton, Illinois. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
