Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment. If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: 1) Select, and have each affected employee use, the types of PPE that will protect the affected employee from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment; 2) Communicate selection decisions to each affected employee 3) Select PPE that properly fits each affected employee. a. In the service shop, at the RV maintenance area: On or about June 22, 2022, the employer exposed an employee to health hazards from hazardous chemicals which can cause, skin damage, respiratory injury and illness, organ failure and cancer, in that the employer was not requiring an employee to use properly fitted and assessed chemical resistant gloves. Without proper protective gear, knowledge of what gear to wear, and employer requirement to wear the personal protective gear while using solvents and degreasers, exposes these employees to health hazards. b. In the service shop, at the RV maintenance area: On or about June 22, 2022, the employer exposed an employee to health hazards from hazardous chemicals which can cause, skin damage, respiratory injury and illness, organ failure and cancer, in that the employer was not requiring an employee to use properly fitted eye/face protection and clothing such as safety glasses and aprons. Without proper protective gear, knowledge of what gear to wear, and employer requirement to wear the personal protective gear while using solvents and degreasers, exposes these employees to health hazards.
