29 CFR 1915.71(b)(5): Scaffolds were not maintained in a safe and secure position. "Sea Goddess", Marine Railway 4, Boat Yard: Employees were in the process of prepping the bottom and sides of the vessel for painting and repairing the propeller. The scaffolding erected around the vessel was unsafe for the following reasons, creating slip, trip and fall hazards of 6-9.5 feet: 1. Wood planking and components of Werner aluminum painters scaffolding were not compatible for use. 2. Wood and Werner aluminum planks were not level. 3. Wood and Werner aluminum planks were not adequately secured to prevent moving or shifting. 4. Scaffold access points varied in vertical rise between rungs and were in excess of 12 inches. 5. Lumber used in scaffolding around the perimeter of the vessel was either cracked clear through or had sections cut out affecting strength. 6. The lumber used was not stamped or approved for scaffold use. 7. Planking erected around the perimeter of the vessel was less than two 10 inch planks in width.
