29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i): Select, and have each affected employee use, the types of PPE that will protect the affected employee from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment. a. On and/or before February 26, 2019, the employer failed to select and have employees, performing activities such as conducting furnace pre-stage duties, melting and pouring, cleaning troughs, skimming sows, adding scrap casting to undersized sows, handling ingots, molds and sows, and other activities in the production department, use protective equipment to protect the body and extremities against thermal burns and the feet from falling or rolling objects including, but not limited to, the following: primary clothing protection with no open pockets and pant legs worn over the top of the spats; appropriate gloves tucked into the sleeves unless reaching overhead; and metatarsal footwear. Imperial Aluminum - Minerva LLC was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1336346, citation number 1, item number 6 and was affirmed as a final order on December 7, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 217 Roosevelt Street, Minerva, Ohio 44657.
