Guidance for the development and implementation of a safe and effective housekeeping program can be found in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards NFPA 664 "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" and NFPA 652 "Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust". It may also be necessary for the employer to ensure that dust generated from woodworking operations is captured at the source and collected through the implementation of an exhaust ventilation system installed in accordance with recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices such as, but not limited to, the principles and guidelines of the National Fire Protection Associations (NFPA) standards NFPA 664 "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" and NFPA 91 "Standard for Exhaust Systems for Air Conveying of Vapors, Gases, Mists, and Particulate Solids".
