29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652(c). The employer had not complied with the provisions of 29 CFR 1926.652(b)(1)(i) in that the excavation was sloped at an angle steeper than one and one-half horizontal to one vertical (34 degrees measured from the horizontal): a) Work Site: 434 Rockaway Valley Road, West Side, Parallel to the Garage, Boonton, NJ. Workers installing a French drain system in a trench were exposed to crushing injuries in the 9 to 13 foot deep trench which was not adequately sloped or protected by shields or shoring. Violation observed on or about 10/01/2014. b) Work Site: 434 Rockaway Valley Road, Southwest Side and East Side, Parallel to the House's Foundation, Boonton, NJ. Workers installing a French drain system in a trench were exposed to crushing injuries in the at least 9 foot deep trench which was not adequately sloped or protected by shields or shoring. Violation occurred on or about 09/29/2014.
