29 CFR 1910.1001(j)(7)(iv): The employer did not provide, at no cost to employees who perform housekeeping operations in an area which contains presumed asbestos-containing material (PACM) and/or other asbestos-containing material (ACM), an asbestos awareness training course: Note: This training shall, at a minimum, contain the following elements: Health effects of asbestos, locations of ACM and PACM in the building/facility, recognition of ACM and PACM damage and deterioration, the requirements and contents of this standard relating to housekeeping, and proper response to fiber release episodes, to all employees who perform housekeeping work in areas where ACM and/or PACM is present. Each such employee shall be so trained at least once a year. a) A.M. Castle & Co., Franklin Park, IL, did not provide an asbestos awareness training course to all new or recently hired employees who are responsible for housekeeping in areas of the facility where asbestos-containing material (ACM) and/or presumed asbestos-containing material (PACM) are present. b) A.M. Castle & Co., Franklin Park, IL, did not provide an annual asbestos awareness training course to veteran employees who are responsible for housekeeping in areas of the facility where asbestos-containing material (ACM) and/or presumed asbestos-containing material (PACM) are present. The employer did not retrain these affected employees since April 2012 asbestos awareness training. A.M. Castle & Co., was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, 29 CFR 1910.1001(j)(7)(iv), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 107725 as citation number 1, item number 3, and was affirmed as a final order on April 19, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at 3400 N. Wolf Road in Franklin Park, Illinois. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
