Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. In the production area, the eyelet presses were not adequately guarded. There were large holes in the enclosures around the eyelet presses that allowed access to moving parts in the press while it was in operation. b. In the production area employees performed work on eyelet presses with the back door open while presses were in operation, exposing employees to moving parts. The employer did not take adequate steps to prohibit bypassing doors and gates while the presses were in operation. The Anomatic Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.212 (a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 794502, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on January 21, 2013, with respect to a workplace located at 1650 Tamarack Rd., Newark, Ohio 43055.
