29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Employee in an excavation were not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with paragraph (b) or (c) of this section in that employees were directed to enter the excavation when the excavation was not made entirely in stable rock, exceeded 5 foot in depth and no protective system was in place: a) Intersection of Churchill Avenue & Berry Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. Employees were allowed to work in an unprotected excavation that measured approximately 28 foot long, 8 foot wide and in excess of 5 foot deep exposing them to cave-in hazards. Condition occurred on or about 07/21/14.
