Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an asphyxiation hazard: On or about 6/29/11, at the Trans Florida Development Corp. jobsite, the employer failed to evaluate the job and implement procedures to ensure that employees are not subject to toxic substances (e.g. CO) exposure while working. Among other methods of abatement, a feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is: a) Implement a written confined space program. b) Testing of the atmosphere for oxygen levels, and known or suspected toxic substances such as but not limited to carbon monoxide prior to entry and as often as necessary to ensure that the atmosphere remains safe. c) Provide adequate ventilation at the site for the storm drain manhole when needed. d) Provide rescue equipment at the site such as but not limited to a tripod, safety line, harness and proper respiratory equipment. e) Follow the American National Standard Safety Requirements for Confined Spaces(ANSI/ASSE Z117.1-2009 ). PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
