THE PARKER HANNIFIN CORPORATION WAS PREVIOUSLY CITED FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARD OR ITS EQUIVALENT STANDARD 5(a)(1) WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN OSHA INSPECTION NUMBER 311413462 CITATION NUMBER 01, ITEM NUMBER 001, ISSUED ON 03/04/2008 WITH A FINAL ORDER DATE OF 03/19/2008, WITH RESPECT TO A WORKPLACE LOCATED AT 8225 HACKS CROSS RD, OLIVE BRANCH, MS. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards by loads being carried by Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices that were not inspected, tested, and marked to show the load rating and manufacturing specifications as to; The below-the-hook lifting devices used on hoists to lift metal coils and the lifting device used on the overhead crane on the clean line were not inspected, tested, marked as required in ASME B30.20-2006, Section 20-1.2.1(a), Section 20-1.2.1(b) and listed with the following: -Rated load [as described in para 20-1.2.1(a)] -Manufacturer's name and address -Serial number -Lifter weight, if over 100 lbs (45 kg) -Cold current (amps) and rated voltage (if applicable) -ASME BTH-1 Design Category and Service Class (a)On or about November 10, 2010 near the automatic end former, the lifting device used on the 1 ton Valustar hoist used to lift coils weighing up to 500 pounds was not inspected, tested, or marked. The top bar on the lifting device was bent. (b)On or about November 10, 2010 at the clean line, the lifting device used on the P&H overhead crane was not inspected, tested, or marked. (c)On or about December 1, 2010 near the 3/8 coupling area, the 1/2 ton hoist used to lift coils weighing up to 500 pounds was not inspected, tested, or marked. The top bar on the lifting device was bent. (d)On or about December 1, 2010 at the 5/8 to 3/4 saw cutter, the 1 ton Dayton hoist used to lift metal coils weighing up to 500 pounds was not inspected, tested, or marked. The top bar on the lifting device was bent. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct these hazards is to; mark or affix an identification plate to the device which includes the information required and perform inspection as required by ASME B30.20-2006.
