Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, in that foundry employees working with overhead cranes were exposed to the potential of being struck by materials carried by the cranes if the materials were to be disengaged from the crane hoods due to broken safety latches. a)Kenton Iron Products, Inc., Kenton, Ohio: On or about August 5, 2008, the employer did not ensure the hook for the 3 ton crane in the core finishing area was provided with an effective safety latch. The safety latch was for this crane was broken. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to comply with the requirements of ASME B30.10 "Safety Standard for Cableways, Cranes, Hoists, Hooks, Jacks, and Slings". This employer has received a citation for this standard or a substantially similar standard as reflected in inspection # 307240408, citation 1, item 2, issued on February 17, 2006 and became a final order on March 29, 2006. No additional abatement information is needed for this item.
