Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall from an elevated location: a)Between the period beginning September 17, 2007 through October 3, 2007, in the wash alley: Employees were not protected from an approximate 6 1/2 foot fall to the concrete floor while performing operations on top of the Lavatec shuttle/conveyor. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure the use of a fall protection system or a safe means of access to the elevated location by the use of a pull out ladder stand attached to the side of the shuttle with an interlock that shuts down the movement of the Lavetec shuttle/conveyor.
