Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CUTS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) West Shop, East End - The Haberlee circular chop (cut off) saw used to cut metal, was not equipped with a magnetic restart or a similar device. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes but not limited to the following: Conform to ANSI an American National Standards Institute for Metal Cutting Sawing Machines B11.10 - 2003, Section 6..11 in that machine controls shall incorporate a type of drive motor starter that will disconnect the drive motor from the power source in the event of control voltage or power system failure. The Waukegan Steel Sales, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard or its equivalent standard Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 306400664, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1, issued on April 7, 2003 with the respect to a workplace located at 1201 Belvidere St., Waukegan, Illinois. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but not be limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
