Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a)RSR smelting kettle #2- on or about 8/17/05- Employees standing on the unguarded ledge of the smelting kettle were exposed to falling in the kettle when opening and closing the kettle quarter door. Among others one feasible method of abating the hazard includes: Installation of guard railing and or a lifting device for opening and closing the kettle hood door. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
