Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPOPPROC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards from hydraulic fluid that mixes with molten aluminum causing smoke or fire: (a)Foundry: On February 8, 2005, and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to smoke and fire due to Tellus Plus Oil 32 being added to the Stahl Unitol hydraulic power unit supplying pressure to the hydraulic tilt pour units. LA Aluminum Casting Company was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 306438821, Citation Number 01, Item Number 02, issued on 07/29/2004. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to shield the hydraulic lines form the hot aluminum, or use fire resistant hydraulic fluid.
