Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: a)Tripping and falling hazards causing severes contusions, lacerations and abrasions. Employees were performing daily different tasks on a building which have some offices and used continually a storage room which have on the floor a space of 3' square feet without tiles. Also at the main entrance of the Physics building there were broken tiles. Location: third floor Storage room of the building known as "Servicio de Extension Agricola" and the main entrance of the Physics building of the UPR Mayaguez Campus. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the placing of new tiles on the affected areas. UPR was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard: section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Safety and Health Act, which was contained in PR (OSHA) inspection number 308157890, citation number 1, item 1 issued on 6/17/05, with respect to a workplace located at Mayaguez Campus. a)Riesgos de tropiezos y caidas ocasionando contusiones severas, laceraciones y abrasiones. Empleados estuvieron realizando diariamente diferentes tareas en un edificio el cual tiene varias oficinas y utilizaron un almacen el cual tiene un espacio de 3' cuadrados sin tener losetas. Tambien en la entrada principal del edificio de Fisica habian losetas rotas. Localizacion: almacen del tercer piso del edificio conocido como Servicio de Extension Agricola y entrada principal del edificio de Fisica de la UPR, Recinto Universitario de Mayaguez. Entre otros metodos, un metodo factible y aceptable para corregir este riesgo es la colocacion de nuevas losetas en las areas afectadas." UPR fue previamente citado por esta norma de seguridad y salud ocupacional o un estandar equivalente: Seccion 6(a) de la ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico, el cual estuvo contenido en la Inspeccion de PR (OSHA) 308157890, Citacion 1, Renglon 1 emitida en 6/17/05, con respecto a un lugar de trabajo localizado en el Recinto Universitario de Mayaguez."rio
