Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to atmospheric hazards while working in a confined space. On or about 10/10/02 at 1800 Bay Road in Miami Beach, employees were exposed to hazardous atmospheres such as, but not limited to, hydrogen sulfide. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be: To follow the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Z117.1-1995, Safety Requirements for Confined Spaces, which requires identification and evaluation of the hazards within a confined space under Section 3, atmospheric testing of the confined space under Section 6, ventilation of the confined space under Section 9, appropriate PPE under Section 11, retrieval equipment under Section 12; and emergeny rescue provisions under Section 14. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
